Trump left no friend France comments on his purchase of Greenland

The storm that US President Donald Trump has unleashed over the past period has not subsided.

Over the past few days, Trump has not left a front unopened, or perhaps he does not have many international friends left, following his statements that extended to Canada, Panama, and Greenland, and prompted harsh comments from those countries.

In the latest of these responses, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot commented on Wednesday on the president-elect’s hint of annexing the Arctic island of Greenland.

“We are a strong continent”

He stressed that the European Union will not allow other countries to attack its borders, in response to Trump’s comments about “controlling” the vast island that has been part of Denmark for more than 600 years.

He added, “There is no doubt that the European Union will not allow other countries in the world to attack its sovereign borders, whoever they are. We are a strong continent.”

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen confirmed yesterday that the island is not for sale, but rather belongs to its residents.

This came after Trump, who will take office on January 20, recently praised the island and promised to “make it great again!”.

He also expressed interest in buying it more than once during his term from 2017 to 2021, but the island authorities and Denmark publicly rejected this.

It is noteworthy that Greenland, with a population of only 57,000 people, is part of Denmark but enjoys self-rule.

It also contains a wealth of minerals, oil and natural gas, but the slow development has made its economy dependent on fishing and annual subsidies from Denmark.
