Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania says he plans to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.

“President Trump invited me to meet, and I accepted. I am a senator for all Pennsylvanians — not just Pennsylvania Democrats,” Fetterman said in a statement. “I have been clear that no one is my gatekeeper. I will meet and talk with anyone if it helps me serve Pennsylvania and the nation.”

CBS News first reported the development.

It was not immediately clear when and where they will meet, including whether it will take place before Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

Fetterman, who has been in the Senate since 2023, has presented himself as a moderate on Capitol Hill and has expressed a willingness to vote for some of Trump’s Cabinet nominees.

In a Fox News interview Tuesday, Fetterman indicated he also plans to support people like Elise Stefanik for U.S. ambassador to the United Nations; Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for secretary of state; And former Rep. Sean Duffy for transportation secretary.

“I’m going to vote for some of these candidates,” he said. “I’m open to hearing from everybody and I don’t know why it’s controversial and I want to remind everybody on the Democratic side, that’s how democracy works.”

Fetterman said he wants to find ways for both parties to work with the new administration.

The senator said in an interview with ABC’s “This Week” in December that Trump is “a unique political talent.”

“That’s undeniable, Trump. You know, he had the energy and almost a sense of courage,” he said. “After you survive an assassination attempt, you get shot in the head, and you had the presence of mind to fight back, you know, fight, fight, fight. I mean, that’s a political talent. It’s undeniable.”
