He went on to say that the agreement also includes cooperation to prevent the return of ISIS.

He added that Jordan will cooperate with Syria in providing gas.

“It will fulfill its obligations”

For his part, Al-Shaibani stressed that the new Syrian administration will fulfill its internal and external obligations.

He said: “We pledge to combat drug smuggling into Jordan.”

While calling on Jordanian companies to invest in Syria.

He also explained that “our first foreign visit was to Saudi Arabia because of its great importance.”

Thwarting smuggling attempts

It is worth noting that over the past months and years, Jordan has repeatedly announced the thwarting of many attempts to smuggle weapons and drugs, carried out by infiltrators linked to some Iranian militias in Syria.

While some shipments were able to enter without being detected.

In May 2024, Jordanian forces uncovered an attempt to smuggle weapons and explosives from Syria into Jordan, in order to recruit fighters and support fighters for Hamas.

While Tehran denied any connection to the issue of smuggling on the Syrian-Jordanian border, whether of weapons or drugs.
