Former India hockey coach Jagbir Singh hospitalised after suffering heart attack

Former India striker and hockey coach Jagbir Singh suffered a massive heart attack and was rushed to a hospital in Rourkela, Odisha on Friday. The two-time Olympian is in Rourkela to play in the Indian Hockey League with team Gonasika. Jagbir, who was working for Air India before retiring a few years ago, was immediately rushed to the hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition. Jagbir Singh, 59, who was born into a Sikh family in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, represented India at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul and then at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He played for the India national team between 1985 and 1996, winning a bronze medal at the 1986 Asian Games in Seoul and a silver medal at the 1990 edition in Beijing. He has made 175 international appearances in all. Jagbir was one of the best strikers of his era, coached the Indian men’s team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens and has also worked as a popular commentator since the 1990s.
