Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has been accused of deceiving Liverpool’s management and forcing the club to pay a huge sum of money after his recent statements about his future. Salah is one of three key players who could leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer, with Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contracts expiring at the end of the season.
The Egyptian winger has been instrumental in helping Liverpool to the top of the Premier League, scoring 18 goals and providing 13 assists in 18 games. However, he recently stated that talks over a new deal are still far from progressing, and when asked if this would be his last season at Liverpool, Salah told Sky Sports: “So far, yes, it’s the last six months, there’s no progress, we’re far away, we just have to wait and see.”
Former Chelsea player Craig Burley believes Salah’s comments have put Liverpool in a very difficult financial scenario, as his current form means they cannot afford to lose him. He told ESPN: “Liverpool officials – they are in trouble now.” The former Scottish star, who played for several Premier League clubs, added: “They are crying because they have probably made Salah the most amazing offer and he is fooling them. He doesn’t have to say anything, he could have allowed his representatives to say yes or no behind the scenes. He is imposing a huge fee on Liverpool at the moment, so this scenario is very difficult financially.
