Yakutsk, Russia –

Researchers in Siberia are conducting tests on a young mammoth, where remarkably well-preserved remains have been discovered thawing permafrost after more than 50,000 years.

This creature resembles a small elephant and has a trunk. It was discovered from the crater of Batacaica volcano. It is a deep basin more than 80 meters (260 feet) wide that is widening as a result of climate change.

The remains, which weighed more than 110 kilograms (240 pounds), were brought to the surface on a stretcher, said Maxim Sherpasov, head of the Lazarev Mammoth Museum laboratory in Yakutsk. Temporary

He said the mammoth was probably a little more than a year old when it died. But testing will help scientists confirm this more precisely. The fact that its head and body survived is extremely unusual.

“As a rule, the part that melts first especially the body They are often eaten by predators and modern birds, for example, even though the front limbs have already been eaten. But the head is amazingly well preserved,” Sherpasov told Reuters.

This is the latest exciting discovery in Russia's permafrost. last month Scientists in the same vast northeastern region It is known as Sakha or Yakutia. The remains of a small saber-toothed cat, 32,000 years old, were on display. Earlier this year, The remains of a 44,000 year old wolf have been discovered.
