Prime Minister Luis Montenegro believes that the year that begins now should be marked by more investment, which he has chosen as the keynote for 2025, and said that the government wants to build a more just, more tolerant and more competitive country.

In an article published in the magazine Al-Akhbar at the beginning of the year, under the title “Portugal in motion”, the Prime Minister wrote that this is the year in which we must continue “without hesitation to build a renewed country, more just, freer, more democratic, more tolerant, more competitive, with more wealth”.

He highlights that “the key words are investment, investment, investment. Realizing public investment. Stimulating domestic, private and commercial investment. Attracting foreign investment that seeks predictability and security”.

The Prime Minister believes that “only in this way” will it be possible to “continue to save the country”. Social situation – with concrete and constructive actions, not with empty words, obstacles or fear of change.

He pointed out that “this new year 2025 is born full of renewal and hope. Renewal of policies, goals, energy and commitment. Hope in the results, in the opportunities we will seize and in the difficulties we will overcome”. With the legislative elections in March 2024, “a change in the political cycle has begun that has led to a turning point and transformation in the country, which has had a direct impact on the living conditions of the Portuguese”.

Luis Montenegro emphasizes that the government he leads “has come to improve people’s lives” and not “to leave everything as it is, nor to criticize or justify the past with the past”.

The Prime Minister highlighted the areas that the government considers to be priorities, such as health, education and the energy transition, among others.

“We will continue to fight bureaucracy in state bodies and services, invest in digitalization and proximity to citizens. We will continue to promote orderly immigration, neither behind closed doors nor wide open doors, welcoming and integrating with dignity and humanity those who choose Portugal”. We will continue to invest in public housing – the largest investment since the 1990s – and encourage the construction of affordable housing, both for purchase and for rent, the largest assets in the country, and fight against violent crime and drug trafficking but also corruption and economic crime”.

After referring to the many measures taken by the Government since it took office in April 2024, Montenegro stated that in 2025, the Executive will continue to “stand by all people, especially the most vulnerable, the most alone and the most unprotected”.

“On January 1, which is also the International Day of Peace, it is also important to remember that peace begins within the four walls of each home, which must be the safest place in the world, where violence, especially against women and children, must be fought with determination in order to eradicate it”, also praising “the stability and opportunities that Portugal has to offer its citizens and the world” on the international scene.
